Repository of Special Risk Persons (RISC)
The CJIS Special Risk Individuals Repository (RISC) allows officers on the road to conduct a quick search of a specific fingerprint registry using a mobile phone identification (ID) device. It provides law enforcement with an improved ability to quickly identify individuals who present particular threats to the public or to law enforcement themselves.
Specifically, this capability allows officers and agents in the field to quickly identify detainees and criminal suspects as wanted persons, sex offender registry cases, known or suspected terrorists, and other persons of special interest. The hand-held ID devices can be used nationwide and reduce officers’ risk when dealing with cases of fake or no ID. The matching process is fully automated, allowing an officer to receive a response within seconds. For more information about the program, contact the Division of International Initiatives at [email protected].
